In December of last year the SPRINT programme launched a call for proposals (OJ No S 237 of 5.12.1993 p. 117) in the context of its science park consultancy scheme. The call concerned three "strands", one of which was the regional innovation and technology transfer (RITT) audits. Under the terms of the call the Commission will provide financial support to local or regional governments or development organizations wishing to establish a team of transnational experts to review the design, impact and effectiveness of technology diffusion organizations at regional level. The intention is to increase the degree of professionalism of innovation support infrastructure. The closing date for proposals is now passed and the response was very strong. Some fifty proposals have been received from ten Member States as well as from three Scandinavian EEA countries. About 25 of these will be selected to undertake consultancy work under the RITT initiative.
