The European Commission has taken a final decision on the allocation of the reserves for the Community initiatives. This decision makes only limited changes to the Commission's proposal of autumn 1995. The total reserve allocated in autumn 1995 was ECU 1,665 million, and the adjustments to this only encompass some ECU 80 million. The modifications are as follows: - INTERREG initiative concerning cross-border cooperation: spatial planning strand increased by ECU 21 million, with corresponding reductions in the flooding and drought strands; - Industrial initiatives (KONVER, RESIDER, RETEX and RECHAR): slight increase in funding from ECU 380 million to ECU 385 million. These initiatives are aimed at areas dependent on the following industries, respectively defence, steel, textiles and coal-mining; - URBAN (areas) initiative increased by ECU 17 million, with corresponding reduction in the ADAPT (adaptation of workforce to industrial change) and LEADER (rural development) initiatives.
