A call for tenders in the context of the Inter Institutional Integrated Services Information System (INSIS) programme concerns one or more pilot projects on automatic or computer-assisted document indexing, possibly together with automatic or assisted drafting of questions, using the EUROVOC multilingual thesaurus (published as an Annex to the Index of the Official Journal of the European Communities). The pilot projects will be based on a limited number of documents and one or two languages only. The purpose will be to demonstrate the technical and economic feasibility of automatic or computer-assisted document indexing, and where appropriate, drafting of questions. Products proposed must be available without major development and, preferably, be commercially established items. Products must also make use of expert-system-type techniques; systems based simply on syntactical analysis of the words used in the text will not be accepted. Bidders must be prepared to attend a number of meetings and present at least two demonstrations on the European Parliament's premises in Luxembourg (UNIX and MS-DOS operating systems available). The official tender application document, or further information, may be obtained from: European Parliament Directorate-General for Research Documentary Databases, Data-Processing Applications and Indexes of Debates Division Attn.
