5. A renewed look at Europe's population distribution
A new map developed by the JRC provides a more accurate picture of how population is distributed in the EU. With a resolution of 100 x 100 metres, the map allows visual, quantitative and qualitative comparisons between different territories, cities and regions. This is thanks to the combination of statistical population data reported at commune level with several detailed cartographic datasets on the location of residential areas.

So of course technologies do have a role to play and they do already play a role, but we have to make sure that they also respect people's privacy and the environment.

An EU-funded project is pushing the envelope on cancer treatment delivery, through the development of emerging technology based on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and high-intensity focused ultrasounds (HIFU).
Researchers are combining MRI-guided HIFU with selective nano-medicine to provide a full spatial and temporal control of the drug-release process, enabling cancer treatments to be delivered exactly where they are needed, when they are needed.
The NANOSMART ('Smart Nano-systems for Advanced Cancer Therapy') project is built around two main objectives.
