- CORDIS publishes new 'FP6-2006-TTC-TU'
call
This call is dedicated to enlarging projects which are currently
running /under negotiation and which address specific Activity
Areas

- The FP6 NMP Integrated Project SUSTAINPACK is preparing
a workshop "Innovative Packaging" on 30-31 May, 2006
in Munich.
It is targeted at research, development and innovation
marketing managers from the packaging paper and board
sector, packaging manufactures, packaging firms and
the packaging trade.
- NanoFIB:
from research to application - a European "nanoscalpel"
The CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique)
and the LPN (Laboratoire de Photonique et de Nanostructures)
are holding a NanoFIB information event in Paris on
Thursday 27th October. The success of the European
financed NanoFIB project in moving from research to
an instrument for nanofabrication will be highlighted.
A licence to begin production of the NanoFIB tool
has been granted to the German company Raith GmBH.
The event will be attended by a significant number
of journalists and the European Commission will also
be represented

Sustainpack conference, Stockholm Tuesday 6 and Wednesday
7 December 2005.
- The
Commission launches a public consultation on how to
assess the potential risks of nanotechnologies
The consultation is carried out by the Scientific
Committee on Emerging and Newly Identified Health Risks, closing

- The return of Europides
Europides is a friendly cartoon character, whose job is
to help newcomers to European industrial research to understand
the various mechanisms for funding research under the Sixth
Framework Programme. A leaflet,
a series of posters
and a slide
show are now available
- The
2004 EU Industrial Research Investment Scoreboard
This first EU Industrial R&D; Investment Scoreboard was produced
as part of the research investment Action Plan ("Investing
in research: an action plan for Europe" - COM(2003)226),
which aims to raise the level of R&D; investment in the EU
to 3% of gross domestic product (GDP), as fixed by the Barcelona
European Council in 2002.
- There is an unfortunate and inaccurate perception that
the manufacturing sector is old-fashioned and obsolete that
it is fading away as manufacturing facilities and jobs are
moved outside Europe. The truth is that manufacturing is
transforming into a knowledge-intensive services-based sector
which should attract the best and brightest of our people.
Using a concrete real-life example the following article
illustrates nicely this view of manufacturing in the future.
