R&D in Ostrobothnia

As already mentioned, the small companies in the region do not spend very much money in R&D activities. Partly it is due to their size and partly to their position as subcontractors of bigger companies.

There are many organisations in the region which help particularly small and medium sized companies to develop their R&D activities. Besides the earlier mentioned research facilities there are several financiers and development organisations in this area. The most important of them are:

• National Board of Patents and Registrations of Finland
• Kera Ltd.
• Ministry of Trade and Industry
• Business and Innovation Centre - BIC Botnia
• Technology Research Centre Technobothnia
• Technology Centre Oy Merinova Ab
• KETEK
• SeiTek
• TEAK

Many of these organisations act inside the regional Employment and Economic Development Centre.
