Continuously reinventingour businesses
Interview with Mr. Jesús María de la Maza, President of Innovalia Group
---
January 2005

The PROMOTOR+ Project results from the transfer of a private entrepreneurship innovation model, that of Innovalia Group. Innovalia has helped to create eight new entities in 10 years, with modest own capital investment, achieving very promising growth and survival rates.

What are the reasons for Innovalia’s success?
The key factor of success is its differentiation from other agents in the market. An innovation mentality offers us the opportunity to continuously reinvent our businesses, customising the approach to market conditions. In this sense, the intelligent use of new technologies --whether existing, self developed or made-to-order --provides entities the opportunity to sell new products and services or to improve the productive activity of the firm. However, it is important not to become dazzled by technology; it has to be a mere tool. All in all, customers are the reason for any business and a firm’s policy has to spin around them.

What is the added value for enterprises to be part of a community such as Innovalia’s?
Entities which become part of the Innovalia Group have acquired and made their own the philosophy of co-operation and seizing synergies. In spite of this, every enterprise has its own goals, principles, and policy. They are aware that the share of intangible assets enhances their chances for tackling the market more effectively. The complementarity of profiles, competences, skills even equipments permits them to work as a consolidated team. Being part of this community permits a company of 20 employees to have the credibility, recognition and credit of a firm of 300 high tech employees.

What would you recommend to entities promoting entrepreneurship?
There are no “low-innovation” sectors, only “low-innovative enterprises”. If the intermediary wants to create sustainable firms, innovation must be transmitted in an effective manner.
