Science, Technology and Innovation: Portuguese Council Presidency Perspectives

From 1 January 2000 CORDIS - the European Community Research and Development Information Service - will be hosting the CORDIS Portuguese Council Presidency web service. This new service provides up-to-date information on the important developments taking place in the field of science, technology and innovation, as well as in the area of the information society, during Portugal's term in the EU Council Presidency (1 January - 30 June 2000).

The web service will be updated weekly and be available in English and Portuguese. It is designed to help broaden understanding of the many activities and initiatives related to science, technology, innovation and information society supported by the EU and implemented in the Member States.

CORDIS has developed the service in collaboration with the Portuguese Ministry of Science and Technology, the Institute for International Scientific and Technological Co-operation (ICCTI) and the Observatory of Science and Technology (OCT).

The new service will provide comprehensive coverage on:

• EU Research Council

• Portuguese government priorities and themes concerning science, technology, innovation and information society

• Key science, technology and innovation-related events during the Portuguese presidency

• Portuguese participation in EU research

• Key research and innovation contacts

Special services will offer spotlights and features on projects, people and innovation in Portugal and an extensive coverage of the issues related to the White Book on Portuguese Scientific and Technological Developments (1999-2006). The Presidency service will bring news speeches and interviews, as well as contributions to the discussions, concerning the EU's future R&D; policy.

The CORDIS Portuguese Council Presidency service is the eighth in the series of CORDIS Council Presidency Services, following services for Ireland, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, the United Kingdom, Austria, Germany and Finland. Services from past presidencies are further developed into Member State services, also available on CORDIS.
