CORDIS - ten years on the Web! Harnessing research to improve EU competitiveness
Brussels, 30 November 2004
The European Union’s online research and innovation information service CORDIS marks its tenth anniversary on the Web at Online Information 2004. CORDIS was first publicly launched as a web-based service at Online Information 1994, and has now grown to receive around 8 million page accesses every month with 300 000 unique users of its interactive services.
The latest CORDIS developments demonstrate the evolution of the service from a specialist technical tool, to an open communication platform:
 |
European Innovation Portal
Enterprises of all sizes, as well as other stakeholders, can for the first time find all relevant information on European innovation funding, policy and practice conveniently accessible in one location. The service is newsy, searchable and multilingual - provided in English, French, German, Spanish and Italian.

Technology Platforms
Technology Platforms are new pan-European initiatives bringing together, at the initiative of the Commission and industry, companies, research institutions, the financial world and regulators to define a common research agenda with a vision for EU global leadership.

Future of EU Research Policy
These emerging technology platforms are also highlighted on the CORDIS service covering the ongoing debate about the future of European research policy and the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7). FP7 will be launched in 2007, and is expected to have a budget of almost double the current, over 19 billion euro EU research budget for FP6.

To foster new ways of communication among regional actors and better knowledge management for innovators, in its second decade on the Web CORDIS will continue to explore new e-Publishing solutions, such as the use of blogs, 3-D technologies or intelligent agents. The aim is to enhance the role of the service for supporting an emerging European knowledge market and new forms of promoting innovation, technology and networking of activities across the EU and its Member States.
