CORDIS: Bringing ICT Benefits to the Market
The EU online service CORDIS, in conjunction with IST Results, organises a workshop at the IST 2006 event in Helsinki on the theme of disseminating European Research results
Brussels, 09 November 2006
The Seventh Framework Programme (FP7), the EU's chief instrument for funding scientific research and technological development (RTD) over the period of 2007 to 2013, is an important instrument supporting European efforts to meet the Lisbon goals of growth, competitiveness and employment. Over 50 billion Euros of EU funding is expected to be available for funding RTD in FP7. One of the major themes identified for FP7 is Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) which are critical to Europe's future and underpin the realisation of the renewed Lisbon agenda.
Given that half of the productivity gains in our economies are explained by the impact of ICT on products, services and business processes, ICT is the theme that will receive the highest amount of funding in FP7. The activities will strengthen Europe’s scientific and technology base and ensure its global leadership in ICT, helping to drive and stimulate product, service and process innovation and creativity through ICT use.
However, effective ICT communication of ICT research results is vital for the research to have an impact. A workshop focused on the challenges and opportunities of disseminating ICT research results will take place in the context of Europe's biggest ICT event in 2006 ("IST 2006" taking place in Helsinki from 21 to 23 November 2006). The workshop is organised by CORDIS and IST Results and will include representatives from some innovative European projects focusing on the communication of results, as well as editors and leading journalists working in the field. It will bring together project coordinators, business people, policymakers and stakeholders in ICT research to discuss how to improve communication of ICT research results; attend the workshop on 23 November, Room 203b, from 11.00 - 12.30
Topics include:
- How can communication be improved to stimulate better exploitation of ICT research and results in the emerging European marketplace?
- How to use existing media platforms for reaching a wider community
- What is the contribution of European Technology Platforms (ETPs) to effective dissemination and exploitation of EU-funded research by the business community and policymakers?
In addition, at the "IST 2006" event, the "ICT Work Programme 2007-2008" will be presented. It will provide detailed information on the specific ICT research challenges that European researchers will be invited to address in the first years of FP7.
