CORDIS launches new FP7 service covering Joint Technology Initiatives 27 December 2007
In May 2007, the Commission adopted the first proposals for Joint Technology Initiatives (JTIs). This is the first time that public-private partnerships, involving industry, the research community and public authorities, have been proposed at European level to pursue ambitious common research objectives. read more

€1.75 billion of new research money available for European projects 30 November 2007
The European Commission is today issuing calls for proposals in 32 research areas, making available about €1.75 billion from the 7th Research Framework Programme. Areas for support include environmental issues such as sea-level rise and the impact of climate change on Arctic Ocean eco-systems, the impact of UV radiation on human health and modelling the future impact of energy use on the environment. read more

Commission adopts new guidelines for coal and steel research 10th July 2007
The European Commission has adopted a proposal for a Council Decision on the revised guidelines for spending funds on coal & steel research. The Research Fund for Coal and Steel (RFCS) has an annual budget of about EUR 60 million for research in these two areas, financed by interest on the assets of the now expired European Coal and Steel Community Treaty. read more

European Commission and EIB launch new instrument to finance research and innovation 5th June 2007
Today the European Commission & the European Investment Bank (EIB) sign a cooperation agreement establishing the new risk-sharing finance facility (RSFF) to support research & innovation in Europe. This new instrument will help to make more financing available for promoters of research & innovation projects, which often face more difficulties than traditional business sectors in accessing finance, due to the relatively high levels of uncertainty & risk inherent to their activity. read more
