Research programme (Euratom, EEC) to be implemented by the Joint Research Centre, 1980-1983

 
The programme was drawn up in accordance with the Council Resolution of 17 December 1970 concerning the procedures for adopting research and training programmes (Official Journal No L 16 of 20.1.1971).

The Council Decision adopting the programme repealed Council Decision 77/488/EEC, Euratom (Official Journal No L 200 of 8.8.1977) adopting the previous JRC programme (1977-1980), with effect from 1 January 1980. Unused funds remaining in the previous programme were allocated to the new programme.
To carry out "in-house" scientific and technical research programmes as an integral part of the Community's overall policy for research and technological development and to provide scientific and technical support for other services of the Commission in the formulation and the implementation of Community policies for which they are responsible.
Eighteen programmes:

- Nuclear safety and the fuel cycle:
. Reactor safety;
. Plutonium fuels and actinide research;
. Safety of nuclear materials;
. Fissile materials control and management;

- New energies:
. Solar energy;
. Hydrogen production, energy storage and transport;
. Thermonuclear fusion technology;
. High-temperature materials;

- Study and protection of the environment:
. Protection of the environment;
. Remote sensing from space;

- Nuclear measurements;

- Specific support for the Commission's sectoral activities:
. Informatics;
. Support to safeguards;
. Support to the Community Bureau of References;
. Training and education;
. Utilization of research results;
. Provision of scientific and technical services;

- Operation of large-scale installations:
. Operation of the HFR reactor.
The Commission was responsible for the implementation of the programme and, to this end, called upon the services of the Joint Research Centre.

The dissemination of the information resulting from the implementation of the non-nuclear parts of the programme was carried out in accordance with Council Regulation (EEC) No 2380/74 of 17.9.1974 which adopts provisions for the dissemination of information relating to research programmes for the European Community.
