Turning well-being technology into a success story (iWELL) 2000 - 2003

The aim of iWELL is to take information and communication technology and solutions that were originally developed for production, logistics and construction sectors and turn them into well-being applications. To this end, funding will be provided for product development projects in which technological know-how is applied to the processing of innovations, product development by individual companies, etc. The aim is to provide Finnish companies with a competitive edge in the expanding global market for well-being technology. Research projects in the field will also be funded as part of the programme.

Tekes launched the iWELL well-being and health technology programme in early 2000, and it will be concluded in 2003. Total programme volume is around FIM 250 million (41.5 EUR) of which FIM 110 million will be provided by Tekes. iWELL is the sequel to a number of well-being programmes which all have the same target: internationally competitive solutions and services that enable Finnish companies to benefit from their technological edge.

In iWELL the focus is on solutions that can promote healthy and balanced living. Such technology is especially well-suited to the ageing population, the disabled and those suffering from long-term illnesses as it gives them a better chance of living independently. However, the working age population will also be able to monitor and improve its health with the resulting applications.
