Mechanical Engineering (MASINA) 2002 - 2007

MASINA 2015 is a national technology programme that advances the Finnish Mechanical Engineering's planning and research to answer to the challenges of the future.
Mechanical engineering's challenges in the altering business activity environment:
Product is one of the cornerstones of competitiveness also in the future, but where is the business activity environment relating to mechanical engineering developing into? What do growth and separation of client demands, emphasis on environmental aspects, development and decrease in price of electronics, improvement of communication prospectives, new possibilities and service activities in material and manufacture technology mean to the mechanical engineering? What does the new economy bring along with it?
- Secure the competitiveness and chances of success for traditional industry and advance the adaptation into the changes that will occur in the operational environment
- Develop means of how the Finnish mechanical engineering will be able to answer to the requirements of different environmental factors in its product development better than its foreign competitors and thus obtain a competitive edge
- Transfer the knowledge of communication, electronics, and mechanical engineering outside these industries and research institutes and expand the application areas of these basic technologies

Application for Research Projects
The first bidding round for public research projects aimed at research institutes and universities ends on Thursday, March 28th, 2002. The applications are to be sent to the print with the attachments in the form of Tekes finance application.

The projects are provided to have research contents, that are aimed to deepen the basic knowledge and form new information that are needed in the development of mechanical engineering. The projects are also wished to have versatile consideration of different technologies that are used in development of more versatile machines and machine systems. The research projects that are applied in the program are used to studying the technologies needed in the machine products of the future and their product development and improving the knowledge. Also the cooperation between domestic research groups and concrete international cooperation play a big role in choosing the research projects to the program. The research of the basics on this field are being increased within the projects by combining and networking international knowledge. World class knowledge of mechanical engineering will be reached though this program.
