Objective
The main objective of this project is to explore the possible solutions for cleaning devices capable of clearing out the leading edges of business jets or airliners. Particular attention will be carried out in the modification of already existing devices on sailplanes. The cleaning concept will be compatible with the surface treatment/coating of the leading edge of commercial aircrafts.
In a first step, the work will focus on concept trade-offs. Innovative solutions will be compared with the already existing devices used for sailplanes.
An evolution of the existing systems will be their adaptation for wings with high lift devices, such as slats, and also for the space left inside the wing because of the presence of fuel tanks.
Then, the dynamic elements of the already existing systems, which are actuated by hand or compact electrical motors, will have to be re designed because of the difference in efforts acting on an aircraft and a sailplane; but also to ensure the level required by civil aviation certification.
The consortium will be lead by EPFL with a small company in Austria for consultancy on the sailplane devices.
The amendement is due to the fact that the project started with a delay of 4 months due to access to the Airbus portal that took time and administrative signature rights
the partners started work with the industrials involved with this CfP (DAV and Airbus) in fevrier 2011
The amendement hence requests an extension of 4 months until the 1st September 2012.
There is no change to budget nor deliverables.
