Objective
"The fundamental objective of this project is to critically assess some selected works of the immense corpus of Cameroon Anglophone Literature to ascertain its place not only in Cameroon and Africa, but in the European literary community. It seeks to examine critically the multivariate sociocultural, economic, political, ideological and linguistic issues of the different genres (drama, poetry and prose) that constitute Cameroon Anglophone Literature as distinctive from Cameroon Literature of English Expression. It also aims at showing that this literature has international standards and contributes to trans-cultural, social and political awareness.
Based on interdisciplinary and multiple theoretical perspectives, it will use new historicist, postcolonial, psychoanalytical, feminist and philosophical discourse as interpretative paradigms. In this regard, it will wrestle with the Anglophoneness of the literature as linguistic or ideological, cultural perpetuity with regard to reasserting cultural identity and negotiating new spaces with Western encounters and globalization, gender deconstruction, national awareness and nation building and existentialist questions pertaining to the enigmas and complexities of human existence and experience.
The objectives will be achieved through lectures and seminars with the participation of a research team at Munich University whose library has an updated corpus of the said literature. The outcome will be scholarly publications of essays, conference proceedings, and a monograph which can serve as a standard textbook Cameroon Anglophone Literature.
Given that no systematic and standardised work has been carried out on this literature, this project will serve as a breakthrough and springboard to a mutually enriching academic exchange. It will provide an opening of new horizons not only to the researcher, but the host university and the international community with regard to academic and intellectual expansionism."
