Software for the Optimal Place CAlculation for WIND-farms

Opis projektu

SME initiative on Digital Content and Languages

The existence of large amounts of public available data is a growing fact increasing year by year. Public administrations, private organisations and many other stakeholders are letting the use and consultation of this data freely by all kinds of audiences. On the other hand, the design of wind farms is a complex task that includes the selection of the best location for each wind turbine. There is a number of data which is critical to determine the best location of a wind farm such as the wind power of a region, local environment characteristics, potential interference on communication systems, visual impact or the existence of archaeological sites. The data, related to the above-mentioned issues, come from different sources with different approaches interests, formats and nature. This is usually a handicap for SMEs that have to consider all these collateral but crucial aspects. The main objective of this project will be to create new products and services for SMEs based on the combination and transformation of a large and heterogeneous datasets. These datasets will be converted, manipulated and standardised into a common repository or data pool. The data pool will be linked then to an optimisation engine which results will be the base of a novel software tool used for wind farms siting optimisation. The project will also create methodologies to maintain and increase the data pool and API to-be-licensed access to sell the standardised data to third parties. The results will be directly exploitable by SMEs, who will be able to sell an innovative and non-existent tool based on a GIS (Geographic Information System) interface, provide services to future data providers to standardise their datasets for the tool, and maintain and exploit a standard API for third parties. Engineering service companies will shorten their productive times counting with a centralised source of information for their projects and a software tool for determining the optimal wind turbines location.
