Objetivo The measurement of the masses of very neutron-rich nuclei is of great interest because it reflects many of the aspects of nuclear structure and offers a unique test of those components of the nucleon-nucleon interaction that depend on isospin degree of freedom. In fact, novel theoretical predictions show that close to the neutron drip line magic numbers such as N=8,20,40 could disappear and new ones as N=6,16,34 arise. The present project proposes the detemination of the masses of a large number of neutron-rich nuclei located around the shell closures N=20, N= 28 and N=40 where very interesting effects seem to emerge. The proposed measurement is based on the direct time-of-flight method that has been already successfully applied at the high-resolution spectrometer SPEG at GANIL. As a result the masses around 70 neutron-rich nuclei will be determined for the very first time and the resolution in the mass determination of more than 20 other nuclei will be improved.
