Repetition and Seriality in the Age of Television Studies 3.0

Objective

Researches in Media and Television Studies until today focus either on media industry, content, audiences or media technology. Recent developments regarding the globalization of television formats and the intermedial distribution and reception of television content via the internet and mobile media have been analyzed merely with regard to audience reception and participation.
The research project ‘Repetition and Seriality in the Age of Television Studies 3.0’ will integrate all four dimensions of television to give an example of television in times of current global and intermedial transformations and will explore how these challenges effects European media landscape. This research objective should be achieved by the analysis of the recent phenomenon of transnational adaptations of television series in the US and Germany. REPEAT will analyze for which reasons television series are adapted by national channels or distributed globally, how the content and format of the series are transformed by transnational and intermedial adaptations and the series reception by audiences and critics. In comparison to preceding researches REPEAT will account for the multidimensional aspects of television productions by developing and extending the new interdisciplinary research methodology ‘Television Studies 3.0’ that is able to explain major current global challenges in media technology and its influence on society.
