E-INFRASTRUCTURE MONITORING, EVALUATION AND TRACKING SUPPORT SYSTEM

Project description

Coordination actions, conferences and studies supporting policy development, including international cooperation, for e-Infrastructures

While Africa is the fastest growing region for e-infrastructure development, the lack of accurate knowledge on past and ongoing e-infrastructure projects on the ground creates many uncertainties in international cooperation. Additionally, the lack of coordination among international development agencies is generally viewed as a major detriment to the effectiveness of their action. In their policy recommendations, prominent reports have emphasized the need to establish appropriate tools to enhance the coordination of e-infrastructure development policies and to reinforce the collaboration of the different stakeholder groups for the firm foundation for expanded education and research networking throughout the region.
The iMentors project aims to enhance the effectiveness and coherence of national and EU research policies and the international cooperation in the field of research infrastructures. In close consultation with the stakeholder community, the project will build a virtual observatory, equipped with an advanced Geographic Information System, and a robust decision-support system to position itself as the one-stop-shop data warehouse to retrieve up-to-date information on all e-infrastructure development projects of the past 5 years in Sub-Saharan Africa. In doing so, iMentors aims to create an online community for support to policy development and programme implementation, and launch a dedicated space for online collaboration, facilitating interaction and knowledge sharing, in order to offer to stakeholders the opportunity to create synergies and plan future projects. The entire dynamic of the project is centered on positioning iMentors as the knowledge broker in this policy area, an objective which requires building and maintaining a strong stakeholder ecosystem to ensure its long-term viability, and guarantee that the project's primary objective is met with success.
