Objective
This project will deliver advances in the understanding of cognition under stress, real-time semantic querying and mobile human-computer interaction. Research in this project will cover four related areas. Each area comprises of a theoretical, a system development and an evaluation part. The four areas are: 1) the semantic representation of data, where we will look into data representation and access issues from the suitability of different sensor setups to ontologies for and semantic queries of relevant data for evacuation scenarios; 2) the calculation and communication of evacuation routes, where we focus on the calculation of safe, easy exit routes and their reliable verbal communication ; 3) evacuation maps, which are graphical advices ideally suited to communicate evacuation information on a mobile device’s small screen; 4) user requests that will ensure that users can ask back in case they are unsure about how to proceed, which will avoid fatal situations arising from misunderstandings. Areas 2-4 will yield at least one system prototype that will be subsequently evaluated in human subject studies (area 1 will result in a framework for real-time data access crucial for the development of future systems).
