"Within the framework of Symbolic Dynamics, we propose to study the automorphisms of Multidimensional Shifts of Finite Type.
We propose to explore certain algebraic invariants, analogous to the Dimension-Representation and the Gyration Numbers for automorphisms of one-dimensional Shifts of Finite Type.
Our aim is to utilize the above invariants and confront certain natural problems related to these automorphisms: Extending an automorphism of a finite subsystem and generating an automorphism by finite-order ``eventual automorphisms''.
Our project has direct implications in the context of Multidimensional Cellular Automata. Namely, the existence of block representation for multidimensional invertible cellular automata and the admissibility of a given set periodic orbits in a multidimensional invertible cellular automata."
