Objective
The aim of the project is to investigate the phenomenon of universality in Topological Dynamics. Universality is a classical and fundamental subject in Dimension Theory. The introduction of universality to the context of dynamics is more recent but has already proven itself to be fruitful. The far reaching Lindenstrauss -Tsukamoto Conjecture is the claim that mean dimension and periodic dimension are the only obstructions for embedding in the dynamical context. Mean dimension is an invariant introduced by Gromov a decade ago and has already found applications in diverse fields such as Symbolic Dynamics, Cellular Automata, Holomorphic Functions , Mathematical Physics as well as in Topological Dynamics, notably in Boyle-Downarowicz Symbolic Extension Entropy Theorem and its Z^k -generalization by the Researcher. The project also tackles related conjectures involving the small boundary property, the topological Rokhlin property (a topological analogue of the celebrated Rokhlin Lemma from measured dynamics) and the dynamical version of the classical Sum Theorem from Dimension Theory.
The Researcher, a PhD from the Hebrew University who is currently a postdoc at the University of Cambridge seeks to integrate at the Institute of Mathematics of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IMPAN) which has a long and distinguished history in Topology and its applications. The Researcher worked at IMPAN for 9 months, during which the fit between the Researcher and the Institute was evident. It is certain that this Career Integration Grant will enable the first step of a life long academic career at the Host Institute. Moreover the project by its quality, originality and novelty will contribute to the EU excellence, as well as to the Host Institute through transfer of knowledge through courses and research students and to the mathematical community and the public at large through cooperation and dissemination of new and old results for both specialists and non specialists.
