Science Rocks

Objective

Based on its experience in organising successful Researchers’ Night events for the past seven years, the Research Promotion Foundation in collaboration with of all the major research institutions in Cyprus aims to organise yet another successful event in Cyprus in 2013, through the “Science Rocks” (SciRock) Project. The objectives of the event are to contribute: (1) towards the public recognition of researchers and (2) towards developing a positive attitude of the younger generations regarding the researchers’ profession and its contribution to society. The objectives will be accomplished by reaching a large number of people through a suitable awareness campaign in order to convey the messages of this initiative and by attracting them to an event where they will have the opportunity to meet and interact with the researchers in person, in an educational yet light-hearted and joyful environment, on a Friday evening. The event will take place in Limassol, a seaside city and host of the only public Technological University of Cyprus. The event will take place in an especially developed area near the Medieval Castle. The programme of the event comprises of mainly interactive experiments and demos, competitions for students (high school and university), a standup comedy show and a theater play with the participation of researchers from both the academic and industrial (SMEs) sectors.
