Project description
Advanced Computing, embedded and Control Systems
The ongoing integration of software-intensive embedded systems and global communication networks into Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) is considered to be the next revolution in ICT with a lot of game-changing business potential and novel business models for integrated services and products. CPS will be a core enabling technology for securing economic leadership in embedded systems/ICT, having an enormous social and economic importance, and making decisive contributions to societal challenges.
Europe is well positioned to meet this merging of the physical and virtual worlds. However, to effectively address the associated challenges, a strategic agenda is needed to ensure Europe's competitiveness. This Support Action will systematically survey, analyse, and evaluate the economic, technical, scientific, and societal significance of Cyber-Physical Systems for Europe. The project will develop an integrated strategic CPS research agenda for Europe, and derive comprehensive recommendations for action that will cover the identification and prioritization of research areas, support measures for both horizontal and vertical cooperation, and an outline of possible research partnerships, and will address questions of research funding as well as the issues of training, standardization and policies.
