APPLICATION OF NEW SPINNING TECHNOLOGIES IN THE WOOL INDUSTRY (WOOL AND ASSOCIATED FIBRES).

Obiettivo

TO DEVELOP NEW PROCESSES FOR A HIGHER UTILIZATION OF THE WOOL PROCESSED.

WASTE FROM CARDING AND COMBING WILL BE REWORKED ON NEWLY DEVELOPED MACHINES IN ORDER TO RECLAIM THE FIBRES WHICH ARE WITHIN THE WASTE.

THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE NEW PROCESS IS BASED ON EQUIPMENT THAT HAS BEEN PROMOTED IN COTTON SPINNING RECENTLY. THE MACHINES HAVE TO BE ADJUSTED TO WOOL WHICH IS MUCH MORE SENSITIVE TO MECHANICAL TREATMENT THAN COTTON. LUBRICANTS WHICH PROTECT THE WOOL HAVE TO BE FOUND.

THE RECLAIMED WOOL CAN ONLY BE CARDED ON COTTON CARDS WHICH ARE MODIFIED TO PROCESS FIBRES UP TO 80 MM LENGTH. THE CARD IMPROVES THE CLEANLINESS OF THE WOOL.

SINCE DRAWING OF WOOL WITH HIGH CONTENT OF SHORT FIBRES IS DIFFICULT, IT IS PROPOSED TO MODIFY INTERSECTING GILLS FOR DRAWING OF RECLAIMED CARDING WASTE, AND COTTON DRAW FRAMES FOR DRAWING CLEANED COMBER NOIL.

A MAIN TARGET OF THE PROPOSED PROJECT IS THE EVALUATION OF HOW NEW SPINNING TECHNOLOGIES CAN BE USED TO SPIN RECLAIMED WOOL. IN THIS EVALUATION COVER SPUN TECHNIQUES, OPEN-END SPINNING, AND FRICTION SPINNING ARE INCLUDED.

COVER SPINNING SEEMS TO BE VERY PROMISING SPINNING RECLAIMED CARDING WASTE, AS WELL AS CARBONIZED WOOL, WHILE OPEN-END SPINNING WILL BE USED TO SPIN COMBER NOILS. IN COVER SPINNING THE SPINNING PROCESS IS NOT AS SENSITIVE TO SHORT FIBRE CONTENT AS RING SPINNING. IN ADDITION, THE SPINNING PROCESS ITSELF DOES NOT CREATE MUCH YARN TENSION. WE THEREFORE BELIEVE, THAT EVEN CARBONIZED WOOL, WHICH IS LESS STRONG THAN NORMAL WOOL, CAN BE SPUN TO AS FINE YARN COUNTS AS NORMAL WOOL.

COMBER NOIL WILL BE SPUN ON OPEN-END MACHINES, OF WHICH THE PARTS HAVE TO BE ADJUSTED TO THE WOOL.

FOR EACH SPINNING METHOD THE WOOL HAS TO BE LUBRICATED DIFFERENTLY. WE THEREFORE HAVE TO DEVELOP LUBRICANTS WHICH ARE AT OPTIMUM IN EACH CASE.

AT THE END OF THE RESEARCH PROPOSED RECOMMENDATIONS WILL BE GIVEN AS TO HOW TO UTILIZE THE WOOL BETTER THAN IT IS POSSIBLE TODAY.
