Objective
WALL is a training network on the topic of domain walls in nanoscale magnetic structures, which will provide the next generation of researchers in this area of advanced technology. Domain walls (DWs) are the interfaces separating magnetic domains, their high speed manipulation in nanostructures will lead to the next generation of new and low power functional devices for computation and communication. The consortium that has come together to deliver this training is uniquely qualified to do so, consisting of world-leading experts on condensed matter physics and leading private companies, along with a range of associated partners spanning basic research, instrumentation development, industrial and consumer electronic products, and technology policy. The consortium provides a rich training environment that is both international and intersectoral, where our fellows will both study the cutting edge of science and technology in depth, but also come to appreciate the breadth of the field in terms of its intellectual challenges, commercial concerns, and relationship to society’s need for ever more powerful information technologies with a reduced environmental footprint. This will enable them, in their future careers, to contribute to the strengthening of both the European Research Area and the European Information and
Communication Technology (ICT) industry, particularly GreenIT, an especially important and growing sector for EU development.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
