Obiettivo IN ORDER TO TREAT AGRO-INDUSTRIAL WASTES CARRYING AN ESSENTIALLY LIQUID POLLUTING LOAD, ASSORENI RESEARCH HAS BEEN DIRECTED TO THE IDENTIFICATION OF AN ANAEROBIC DIGESTION PROCESS LEADING TO THE REDUCTION OF VOLUMES AND TREATMENT TIME, TO THE OPTIMISATION OF YIELDS AND TO PREVENT THE WASH-OUT OF THE MICROBIAL FLORA. THE SYSTEM SELECTED CONSISTS OF A PROCESS EMPLOYING FIXED BED ANAEROBIC REACTORS. THE OBJECTIVES OF BENCH-SCALE AND PILOT PLANT RESEARCH ARE THE FOLLOWING : - STUDY OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF TOWER PACKING MEDIA; - IDENTIFICATION OF OPERATING CONDITIONS IN RELATION TO THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF EFFLUENTS; - METHOD OF REACTION START-UP; - SENSIBILITY TO VARIATIONS IN EFFLUENTS COMPOSITION; - SENSIBILITY TO OPERATIONAL INTERRUPTIONS; - INFLUENCE OF HYDROSTATIC PRESSURE INSIDE THE REACTOR IN THE METHANOGENIC ACTIVITY; - DEPURATIVE EFFICIENCY OF THE SYSTEM; - SPECIFIC YIELDS IN BIOGAS IN RELATION TO THE VARIOUS TYPES OF EFFLUENTS.
