ETHANOL PRODUCTION BY CONTINUOUS HYDROLYSIS AND SUBSEQUENT FERMENTATION.

Obiettivo



THE AIM OF THE PROJECT IS TO CONSTRUCT AN EXPERIMENTAL PLANT FOR CONTINUOUS HYDROLYSIS IN A PIPE-REACTOR FOLLOWING A PROCESS-DESIGN OF NEW YORK UNIVERSITY. IN COMPARAISON TO OTHER KNOWN PROCESSES THIS CONCEPT ARCHIVES LOW ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT, ENERGY SELF-SUFFICIENCY AND SMALL SCALE PLANT SIZE BY UTILISATION OF WELL KNOWN PROCESS.
FOR THE OPERATION OF A HYDROLYSIS FACILITY UNDER EUROPEAN CONDITIONS IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT THE SUITABILITY OF THE PROCESS IS PROVEN FOR THE TREATMENT OF WASTE-PAPER, AS IT IS SEPARATED IN CENTRAL RECYCLING PLANTS. HERE RAW MATERIALS ARE AVAIABLE IN ADEQUATE QUANTITIES AND OTHER RESIDUES LIKE STRAW AND WOOD CAN BE ADDED FROM AVAILABLE REGIONAL SOURCES. THIS MEANS THAT SPECIALLY THE INFLUENCE OF DIFFERENT WASTE-PAPER QUALITIES ON THE EFFICIENCY OF THE HYDROLYSIS AND ON THE FERMENTABILITY OF THE HYDROLYZATE IS TESTED.
THEREFORE IT IS THE MAIN OBJECTIVE OF THE PROPOSED PROJECT, TO
- DESIGN AND CONSTRUCT A SHORT TIME HYDROLYSIS PLANT PROCESSING FROM 35 TO 720 KG/H OF RAW MATERIAL;
- PERFORM AN EXPERIMENTAL PROGRAMME FOR
- OPTIMISATION OF THE PROCESS
- MAKE THE BASIC DESIGN FOR AN OPERATIONAL PLANT.
