STUDY ON THE SUBSTITUTION OF SM BY CE-MISCH-METALS IN PERMANENT CO-RARE EARTH-TYPE MAGNETS AND THE EFFECT OF TRANSITION AND RARE EARTH ADDITIVES.

Cel

DEVELOPMENT OF CEMMCO5-TYPE PERMANENT MAGNETS TO APPROACH THE QUALITY OF THE SMCO5-TYPE. REDUCTION IN THE CONSUMPTION OF SM BY ITS REPLACEMENT WITH CE.

THIS PROJECT IS PRIMARILY CONCERNED WITH AN OPTIMIZATION OF THE PRODUCTION METHODS TO OBTAIN CEMMCO5 COMPOSITE MATERIAL.
THE FOLLOWING CHEME WILL BE FOLLOWED:

- ANALYSIS AND EVALUATION OF THE GRINDING POWDERS AS TO THEIR CHEMICAL COMPOSITION AND GRANULOMETRY;
- SMELTING TRIALS IN ARGON USING AN INDUCTION FURNACE;
- GRINDING OF THE POWDERS, GRANULOMETRY CONTROL AND CHOICE OF GRINDING SUPPORT LIQUIDS, TOGETHER WITH A STUDY OF POSSIBLE PHASE TRANSFORMATION;
- INCLUSION OF ADDITIVES SUCH AS SN, PB AND ZN TO INCREASE THE COERCIVITIES OF THE REACTIVE METALS, SUCH AS TI, MN, ZR (MAINLY IN THE FORM OF HYDRIDES);
- PRESSING AND CRYSTAL ORIIIENTATION INVESTIGATIONS TO OBTAIN A MAXIMUM GREEN DENSITY;
- SINTERING AND POST-SINTERING TREATMENT, FOLLOWED BY A STUDY OF THE POSSIBLE DENSIFICATION AND SHRINKAGE EFFECTS AS WELL AS THE EFFECTS OF THE PROTECTIVE GAS. AN OPTIMIZATION OF THE CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF THE COMPOSITE AND PHASE TRANSFORMATIONS, AS A FUNCTION OF DIFFERENT TEMPERATURES;
- DETERMINATION OF THE SATURATION FIELD AND DEMAGNETIZATION OF THE PERMANENT MAGNETS WILL BE EVALUATED.

THE EFFECTS OF THE ADDITIVES ON THE FINAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE PERMANENT MAGNETS WILL BE EVALUATED.
