ETH Zurich Postdoctoral Fellowship Program 2

Objective

ETH Zurich applies for a continuation of the COFUND support for its “ETH-Fellows” programme that received funding within the 2009 COFUND call. The programme supports incoming fellowships for postdoctoral researchers on a competitive basis. “ETH Fellows 2” aims at high-potential individuals primarily interested in following an academic career. Awardees will be offered an ETH employment contract with a standard postdoctoral salary for two years and will be entitled to an annual individual travel and consumable budget. Fellows are offered career development support and courses to develop their non-scientific skills. They are expected to take part in teaching activities of their host group and are encouraged to apply for additional competitive funding. The programme is open for all applicants who have obtained a doctorate from an institution other than ETH Zurich or the University of Zurich within 2 years of the date of application. The two-year rule can be waived in case of a career break. Applications are to be made jointly by the candidate and their host, who must be an ETH Professor and who will act as a supporter and mentor of the fellow. No thematic restrictions apply and all research topics of interest to ETH Zurich are eligible for funding. Proposals will be judged on the basis of scientific merit and the applicant’s track record by the ETH Research Commission and external reviewers. “ETH Fellows 2” offers an excellent opportunity for young researchers to acquire new skills and competencies boosting their careers and helping to attain an independent senior position. Support by COFUND together with an increase of ETH’s own contribution will significantly enhance the incoming mobility of advanced researchers from the EU States, Associated or Third countries to Switzerland.
