Objective
The objective of the proposed “SPrinT” (Strategic Partnership in Transition) programme is to share Polish and Finnish experience in systemic transition and democratization with Egypt in both the political and economic spheres. Though each of these processes has been unique, each also brings with it powerful lessons on the complex nature of transition, reform and transformation which can be beneficial to Egypt. The “SPrinT” will allow the Egyptian researchers to learn about different aspects and models of democratic transformation in Poland and Finland. On the other hand, it will enrich European understanding of the ongoing processes and will allow monitoring closely the changes in the decisive years of a transformation. As the EU acknowledged the need to take on board the societal needs and priorities of its Southern partners, to improve pluralism and inclusiveness in its policies and support democratization, the proposed programme will contribute to shaping the closer EU relations with Egypt.
The three think-tanks will exchange 8 researchers and one managerial staffer over a period of 24 months. During the mutual visits the researchers will work both on their own research projects within broadly-understood “transitology” and be supervised by a host institution research programme coordinator to be included in the institution’s work. Joint workshops, seminars and publications are envisaged as well as final product in the form of a book/report project on “Egyptian model of transformation? Comparative analysis”.
