Objectif RECOVERY OF NON-FERROUS METALS (CU,PB,NI,CO,AG,AU) CONTAINED IN ARSENIDE COMPOUDS ISSUING FROM CU, ZN AND PB SMELTERS, AND VALORIZATION OF ARSENIC. PYROMETALLURGICAL ELABORATION, OF NON-FERROUS METALS LEADS TO ARSENIDE WASTES CONTAINING METALS SUCH AS COPPER, NICKEL, COBALT, GOLD AND SILVER. THE VALUABLE ELEMENTS WHICH ARE PRESENT IN THESE WASTES CERTAINLY AMOUNT TO A QUITE INTERESTING PRODUCTION POTENTIAL ON AN EUROPEAN SCALE, A POTENTIAL TO BE PRECISELY ESTIMATED WITHIN THE PRESENT PROJECT. THIS STUDY IS AIMED AT DEVISING PROCESSES WHICH COULD BE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE IMPLEMENTED IS EXISTING PLANTS, AND THEREFORE WOULD REQUIRE VERY LITTLE SPECIFIC INVESTMENTS. THIS RESEARCH WILL INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING STEPS : . A PHYSICAL UPGRADING OF ARSENIDES BY SEPARATING LIBERABLE PHASES SUCH AS ELEMENTS IN METALLIC STATE, LEAD COMPOUNDS AND FERROUS PRODUCTS. THIS UPGRADING WILL INVOLVE CHIEFLY FLOTATION, GRAVIMETRY AND MAGNETIC TECHNIQUES. . A THERMIC TREATMENT FOR VOLATILIZING ARSENIC FROM THE PRECEDINGLY OBTAINED CONCENTRATE. THERMODYNAMIC STABILITY AND REACTIVITY STUDY FOR INVOLVED COMPOUNDS WILL BE NECESSARY. CONTROL PARAMETERS WILL INCLUDE TEMPERATURE, OXIDIZING OR REDUCING PROPERTIES OF REACTOR ATMOSPHERE, QUANTITIES OF SULFUR TO BE ADDED AS PYRITE. . AN HYDROMETALLURGICAL TREATMENT OF THE CALCINES. THE AIM OF THE ABOVE TECHNICAL STUDIES IS TO DEVISE AN INTEGRATION SCHEME FOR APPLYNG THE RESULTS IN EXISTING PLANTS, E.G. L'ESTAQUE - ONLY WORLD PLANT FOR ARSENIC VOLATILIZATION -, SANDOUVILLE FOR NICKEL AND COBALT RECOVERY, NOYELLES-GODAULT FOR LEAD AND PRECIOU METALS PYROMETALLURGICAL WINNING.
