Objetivo SEPARATION OF SHREDDER SCRAP INTO SPECIFIC METAL GROUPS SUCH AS AL, CU, ZN,PB AND STAINSLESS STELL AS WELL AS SEPARATION OF INDIVIDUAL METAL GROUPS INTO TYPICAL BASE ALLOYS SUCH AS AL SCRAP INTO ALSI, ALMG, ALCU, ETC. THE RESEARCH PROJECT IS BASED ON A MODIFIED EDDY CURRENT SEPARATION PROCESS BY WHICH IT HAS BEEN POSSIBLE FOR THE FIRST TIME TO RELIABLY SEPARATE METAL ALLOYS WITH IDENTICAL SEPARATION CRITERIA, I.E. PROPORTION OF CONDUCTIVITY TO SPECIFIC GRAVITY, ACCORDING THEIR BASIC COMPOSITON. UP TO THIS NEW SEPARATION PROCESS HAS ONLY BEEN TESTED IN PRINCIPLE ON IDEAL SPECIMENS OF KNOWN COMPOSITION, I.E. PREFERABLY DISKS OF VARIOUS THICKNESSES. THUS, EXTENSIVE INVESTIGATIONS AND PRACTICAL TESTS WILL BE REQUIRED BEFORE THE PROCESS CAN BE APPLIED ON AN INDUSTRIAL SCALE FOR THE DRY-MECHANICAL SEPARATION OF SHREDDED AUTOMOTIVE SCRAP. THE FOLLOWING INVESTIGATIONS ARE PROVIDED: 1. DETERMINING THE OPTIMUN KIND, ARRANGEMENT, STRENGTH AND EFFECTIVE LENGTH OF MAGNETIC FIELD ON IDEAL SPECIMENS. 2. INVESTIGATING THE INFLUENCE OF TRANSPORT FACTOR SUCH AS THROW-OFF SPEED AND DIRECTION AS WELL AS FLIGHT PATH ON THE SEPARATION PROPERTIES OF IDEAL SPECIMENS. 3. INVESTIGATING THE INFLUENCE OF SPECIMEN SHAPE AND SIZE ON THE QUALITY OF SEPARATION IN ORDER TO DETERMINE THE APPROPRIATE SPECTRUM OF PARTICLE SIZE OF SHREDDED SCRAP. 4. DETERMINING THE SEPARATION PROPERTIES OF PARTICLE MASS FLOWS INSTEAD OF INDIVIDUAL SPECIMENS UNDER THE OPTIMUN CONDITIONS. 5. CHECKING THE RESULTS OBTAINED ACCORDING TO 1 TO 4 ON REAL SAMPLES PRESORTED BY SHAPE AND SIZE FROM SHREDDED SCRAP; QUALIFICATION OF THE SEPARATION RESULT BY MELTING AND ANALYTICAL EVALUATION. 6. ADAPTING AND TESTING THE OPTIMUN PROCESS ACCORDING TO 5 IN INSTALLATIONS IN PRACTICE FOR THE SEPARATION OF MASS FLOWS (CONVEYOR BELTS) AND/OR INDIVIDUAL PARTICLES (ORE SORTING MACHINES OF THE ORE SORTER TYPE). 7. LONG-TIME TESTS UNDER OPERATING CONDITIONS TO DETERMINE OPERATING DATA. 8. COMPARISON OF THE DATA OBTAINED ACCORDING TO 7, WITH CORRESPONDING DATA OF CONVENTIONAL SEPARATION PROCESSES.
