DISSOLUTION OF ZINC FROM LEADED ZINCOXIDES FOR SIMPLIFYING THE WINNING OF TIN-LEAD.

Objectif

1. IMPROVED EXTRACTION OF TIN.
2. EXTENSIVE REMOVAL OF SLAGS DETRIMENTAL TO ENVIRONMENT.
3. ENERGY SAVINGS.
4. RECOVERY OF ZINC IN AN IMPROVED PRODUCT.

ON THE SMELTING OF COPPER SCRAP, FUMING OXIDES ARE PRODUCED CONTAINING ZINC, LEAD AND TIN, WHICH ARE TREATED ON A LEAD TIN ALLOY AND ON ZINC OXIDE.
A CONSIDERABLE ENERGY INPUT IS NECESSARY FOR THE VOLATILIZATION OF ZINC.
MOREOVER BY THIS A SLAG IS PRODUCED WHICH BRINGS PROBLEMS OF DISPOSAL.
BY A PREVIOUS REMOVAL OF ZINC, SLAG CAN NEARLY COMPLETELY BE AVOIDED.
THE EXTRACTION RATE OF TIN INCREASES CORRESPONDINGLY.

TWO TECHNIQUES FOR THE SEPARATION OF ZINC BY A HYDROMETALLURGICAL METHOD SEEM TO BE PRACTICABLE :

1. ZINC IS LEACHED WITH ACID AND RECOVRED IN FORM OF A ZINC SALT.
IN THIS CASE TIN AND LEAD MUST REMAIN IN THE LEACHING RESIDUE AS INSOLUBLE COMPOUNDS. BY A REACTION WITH SUITABLE SODIUM COMPOUNDS THE SOLUTION RESIDUE IS BROUGHT INTO A FAVOURABLE SHAPE FOR THE REDUCTION.
THE SODIUM COMPOUNDS RECOVERED BY THE REACTION CAN BE A SALES PRODUCT.
THEN FROM THE LEACHING RESIDUE THE LEAD TIN ALLOY CAN BE RECOVERED BY REDUCING MELTING WITHOUT SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF SLAG.

2. LEADED ZINC OXIDE IS LEACHED WITH A COMPLEX FORMER. IN THIS CASE ZINC IS DISSOLVED AS COMPLEX. THE RESIDUE IS FED INTO THE REDUCTION. AFTER DECOMPOSITION OF THE COMPLEX, ZINC IS CARRIED DOWN AS AN INSOLUBLE COMPOUND. AFTER REGENERATION THE COMPLEX FORMER CAN BE USED AGAIN.

AFTER STUDIES IN LABORATORY SCALE THE INVESTIGATIONS WILL BE REPEATED IN A PILOT PHASE TESTING THE FEASIBILITY OF THE NEW TECHNOLOGY.
