Obiettivo IMPROVEMENT OF THE ENGINEERING OF ORE EXTRACTION AND TRANSPORTATION FROM MINES AND SEA-BEDS IN ORDER TO SIMPLIFY THE MINE INFRASTRUCTURES AND TO RECOVER MINERAL FROM CONTINENTAL SHELVES. THE EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH IS MAINLY BASED ON AIR-LIFT TESTS IN TWO PHASE (WATER-AIR) AND THREE PHASE (ORE-WATER-AIR) VERTICAL FLOW. THE ANALYSIS OF AIR-LIFT PROCESS WILL PERMIT THE INVESTIGATION ON TWO AND THEREE PHASE FLOW MECHANICAL BEHAVIOUR AS A WHOLE AND ON THE SINGLE PHYSICAL PARAMETERS INVOLVED IN THE DESIGN (VELOCITIES, SPECIFIC GRAVITY), GRANULOMETRY, CONCENTRATION AND PRESSURE DISTRIBUTION, ETC.). GREAT ATTENTION WILL BE GIVEN TO "SLIP" EFFECTS BETWEEN GASEOUS AND LIQUID AND SOLID AND LIQUID PHASES, IN ORDER TO IMPROVE THE PROCESS ENERGY BALANCE, FROM THE TECHNICAL AND ECONOMIC STANDPOINTS. THE TEST PLANT, WHOSE DIMENSIONS DEPEND ON THE UPPER LIMIT OF THE PIPELINE DIAMETER (10 TO 50 CM) AND ON THE LIQUID VELOCITIES TO BE INVESTIGATED (0,5 TO 3 M/S) WILL BE REALISED BY THE SNAM PROGETTI SPA IN FANO (PESARO).
