RECOVERY OF LEAD, COPPER, SILVER AND ASSOCIATED METALS CONTAINED IN ZINC PLANTS RESIDUES

Obiettivo



LEAD SULPHATES CONSTITUTE IN THE HYDROMETALLURGICAL ZINC PLANT THE ONLY OUTLET OF - IN ADDITION TO LEAD - VALUABLE METALS SUCH AS SILVER, TIN, GOLD. BESIDES THEY CONTAIN NON NEGLIGIBLE QUANTITES OF OTHER METALS SUCH AS GERMAIN, GALLIUM, IMDIUM.
THE PROCESS USED IN ZINC PLANTS DIFFERS CHIEFLY IN THE TREATMENT OF LEACHING RESIDUES.

- BY PYROMETALLURGY (SHAFT FURNACE) LEAD AND A SMALL PART OF THE SILVER INPUT ARE PRODUCED INTO SULPHATES WHEN COPPER AND THE REMAINING SILVER GO INTO A POOR FERROUS MATTE (REGARDING COPPER AND SILVER CONTENTS).
- BY HYDROMETALLURGY (HOT STRONG LEACHING) LEAD AND ALL SILVER ARE EXTRACTED INTO THE FORM OF POOR SULPHATES OR ARE REJECTED INTO FERROUS RESIDUES.

THE OBJECTIVE OF THE RESEACH IS TO ENSURE THE RECOVERY OF METALS CONTAINED IN THESE BY-PRODUCTS WHATEVER THE UPSTREAM TREATMENT PROCESS IS.
CONSEQUENTLY IT WILL BE NECESSARY, IN ADDITION TO LEAD SULPHATES TREATMENT, TO SUTY A BETTER BENEFICIATION OF FERROUS MATTES CONTAINING SILVER AND COPPER.

- LEAD SULPHATE. THEY WILL BE TREATED BY HYDROMETALLURGICAL PROCESS IN
CLORIDE MEDIUM USING AN ELECTROLYSIS OR A CEMENTATION FOR LEAD (M.R. IS NOW LEADER IN THIS FIELD)

- FERROUS MATTE. THE RPOGRAMME RELATED TO THE MATTE WILL INCLUDE IN PARTICULAR :

. A MINERALOGICAL STUDY
. PHYSICAL BENEFICIATION TESTS
. A STUDY OF CHEMICAL TREATMENT WITH DIFFERENT REAGENTS OF A RAW - AND A ROASTED - MATTE WITH SILVER RECOVERY INTO THE FORM OF A CONCENTRATE
. A STUDY OF THERMAL TREATMENT IN PARTICULAR "WASHING" BY LIQUID LEAD.

LABORATORY STUDIES WILL BE FOLLOWED BY COMPARATIVE PRE-ECONOMIC STUDIES FOR SULPHATES AND MATTES BY A ATUDY OF ADAPTABILITY OF THE CHLORIDE PROCESS TO OTHER PLUMBEOUS WASTE PRODUCTS AND FINALLY BY PILOT-PLANT FOR THE SELECTED BEST PROCESSES.
