STUDIES ON THE INTERACTIONS BETWEEN MINERALS DURING GRINDING (SLIME-COATING) AND COLLECTION MECHANISMS

THE AIMS OF THIS RESEARCH ARE :

I) THE STUDIES OF THE INTERACTIONS BETWEEN MINERALS UNDER VARIOUS KINDS OF GRINDING AND CONDITIONING.

II) THE STUDIES OF COLLECTION MECHANISMS

THIS RESEARCH IS A NATURAL BRANCH OF THE PROGRAM SUBMITTED BY MONIMET RECHERCHE, THE AIM OF WHICH IS TO STUDY, IN A FLOTATION PILOT PLANT, GRINDING CONDITIONS AND VARIOUS TYPES OF CONDITIONING, TO INCREASE METAL RECOVERY IN FINELY DISSEMINATED COMPLEX SULFIDE ORE.

RESULTS FROM APREVIOUS PROGRAM ALLOWED TO DETERMINE SOME CONDITIONS (PH, REAGENTS, AIRING ...) WHICH DECREASE THE INFLUENCE OF SLIME-COATING OF PYRITE BY GALENA DURING GRINDING. SLIME-COATING AND MIXITE LOWER LEAD RECOVERY IN FLOTATION PROCESS.

FOR A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF SLIME-COATING AND IN ADDITION TO THE CLASSIC-METHODS OF MINERAL BENEFICIATION, IT IS MECESSARY TO USE TECHNICS DEPICTING THE EVOLUTION OF SURFACE PROPERTIES OF GALENA AND PYRITE GROUND UNDER DIFFERENT CONDITIONS. THE FOLLOWING METHODS WILL BE USED :

I) ELECTROPHORESIS AND STRAMING POTENTIAL TO STUDY ELECTROKINETIC PHENOMENA.

II) FOURIER TRANSFORM INFRARED INTERFEROMETRY AND RAMAN SPECTROSCOPY TO STUDY THE SUPERFICIAL COMPOUNDS.

IN THE SECOND STEP OF THIS RESEACH THE COLLECTION MECHANISM USING THE MEANS OF FRONTAL ANALYSIS BY LIQUID CHROMATOGRAPHY WILL BE STUDIED. THIS METHOD ALLOW TO DEPIC :

1) THE ADSORPTION OF XANTHATES ON TO PREVIOUSLY CONDITIONED SURFACES.

2) THE KINETICS OF THE ADSORPTION.

3) THE EVENTUAL DETERIORATION OF REAGENTS.

THE WORK WILL BE EXECUTED IN CLOSE COLLABORATION WITH MINEMENT RECHERCHE, TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE RESULTS OBTAINED FROM THE PILOT PLANT STUDIES.
