SIMULATION AND CALCULATION MODELS FOR ASSESSING THE TECHNICAL BEHAVIOUR OF WOODEN STRUCTURAL UNITS REGARDING MOISTURE.

A WOODEN EXTERIOR STRUCTURAL UNIT IN PANEL STYLE IS TO BE EXAMINED TO ASSESS BOTH BY CALCULATION AND IN EXPERIMENTS THE MOISTURE BEHAVIOUR OF ITS PARTICLEBOARD LAYERS. CALCULATIONS WILL COVER SPECIFIC MATERIAL PARAMETERS OF PARTICLEBOARDS, SUCH AS THEIR SORPTION BEHAVIOUR. THE CALCULATION MODEL WILL BE A CALCULUS OF VARIATIONS WHICH TAKES INTO ACCOUNT NON-STATIONARY FIELDS OF TEMPERATURE AND HEAT FLOW AS WELL AS NON-STATIONARY MOISTURE TRANSPORT WITHIN THE STRUCTURAL UNIT.

DATA OF THREE DIFFERENT EUROPEAN CLIMATE ZONES HAVE TO BE PROVIDED FOR THE THEORETICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATIONS. REGRESSION ANALYSES WILL HELP TO DETERMINE MEAN ANNUAL COURSES OF THE TEMPERATURE OF THE AIR, THE RELATIVE HUMIDITY OF THE AIR, ETC. EXPERIMENTS WILL BE CARRIED OUT BY ARTIFICIALLY SIMULATING CLIMATE IN A COMPUTER-CONTROLLED TWIN CLIMATE ROOM HAVING A TEST SPACE OF 2X2 M2. THE ANALYSED COURSES OF CLIMATIC DATA WILL SERVE IN A TIME-ACCELERATED FORM AS CONTROL CURVES FOR THE EXTERIOR CLIMATE. THE COURSE OF THE TEMPERATURE WILL CORRESPOND TO THE MEAN ANNUAL COURSES, WHEREAS THE COURSES OF THE RELATIVE HUMIDITY OF THE AIR WILL BE INCREASED EXCESSIVELY IN ORDER TO OBTAIN THE DESIRED RATE OF TIME ACCELERATION DESPITE THE SORPTION INERTIA OF THE PARTICLEBOARD LAYERS. THE INTERIOR CLIMATE (ROOM CLIMATE) WILL BE SIMULATED CONSTANTLY AND WITHOUT EXCESSIVE INCREASE. DURING THIS ARTIFICIAL WEATHERING, THE COURSES OF MOISTURE AND TEMPERATURE IN THE PARTICLEOBOARD LAYERS OF THE STRUCTURAL UNIT WILL BE MEASURED.

THEORETICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATIONS WILL SUPPLY INFORMATION ON THE USABILITY OF THE STRUCTURAL UNIT TESTED AND ON THE EFFECTS OF THE DIFFERENT CLIMATES.
