Objectif THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS STUDY IS TO ANALYSE THE CONSTITUENTS OF ELECTRONICS SCRAP : IDENTIFICATION, CHARACTERIZATION AND DEVELOPING NOVEL RECOVERY TECHNIQUES. This research has resulted in the establishment of the basis of new separation techniques for the treatment of electronic scrap. The concept of specific ionic electrodialysis can prove to be a very powerful approach to separation science in general and the methods developed for electrodeposition from nonaqueous solvents can bridge the gap between classical electrodeposition and molten salt electrochemistry.THE OBJECTIVE OF THE WORK IS TO LOOK AT THE CONSTITUENTS OF ELECTRONICS SCRAP WITH A VIEW TO IDENTIFYING AND DEVELOPING NOVEL RECOVERY TECHNIQUES. THESE TECHNIQUES WILL BE BASED ON A COMBINATION OF CONVENTIONAL PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL ISOLATION PROCESSES TOGETHER WITH THE USE OF SPECIFIC EXTRACTION INTO NON-AQUEOUS MEDIA FOLLOWED BY ELECTRO-RECOVERY, AND THE USE OF SUPPORTED LIQUID MEMBRANES AS A MEANS OF SPECIFIC METAL ELECTRO-RECOVERY. THE WORK IS DIVIDED INTO FIVE MAJOR SUBJECTS: A) KINETIC STUDIES FOR LEACHING IN ORDER TO ESTABLISH OPTIMUM REACTION TIMES B) SELECTIVE PRECIPITATION OF METALS FROM CAUSTIC SOLUTION IN ORDER TO SEPARATE TIN BY INEXPENSIVE MEANS AND POSSIBLY OTHER USEFUL METALS. C) THE COMPLEX-SOLVENT EXTRACTION STUDY WILL CONCENTRATE ON DEVELOPING METHODS FOR SPECIFICALLY SEQUESTERING NI AND CR FROM THE AQUEOUS LEACH LIQUOR. D) FUNDAMENTAL ASPECTS OF THE TRANSPORT CHARACTERISTICS OF IONS SO AS TO ASSIST AND DESIGN THE CONSTRUCTION OF SPECIFIC ELECTRODIALYSES MEMBRANES WILL BE STUDIED. AFTER ASSESSMENT OF PRACTICAL SUPPORTED LIQUID MEMBRANE (SLM) SYSTEMS AND EXTRACTION STUDIES, AN SLM ELECTRODIALYSIS MODULE WILL BE CONSTRUCTED. E) ELECTRODEPOSITION FROM AROMATIC SOLVENTS WILL BE STUDIED INCLUDING FOR ELECTROWINNING OF GOLD.
