Objective
TO DEVELOP A PROCESS SUITABLE FOR PRODUCING A HIGH YIELD UNBLEACHED STRAW PULP WITH STRENGTH CHARACTERISTIC AND PAPER MAKING PROPERTIES THAT ENABLE IT TO BE COMPLETELY INTERCHANGEABLE WITH WOOD PULPS AND WASTE-PAPER PULPS CURRENTLY USED TO PRODUCE PACKAGING AND BROWN PAPERS.
THE DEVELOPMENT WORK PROPOSES TO ADAPT THE BI-VIS PULPER, BY CTP IN THE LAST EEC RESEARCH PROGRAMME, TO HANDLE STRAW CURRENTLY WASTED IN THE COMMUNITY.
THE DEVELOPMENT OF SUCH A PULPING PROCESS COULD THEN BE USED IN PRODUCTION PLAN TRIALS TO PRODUCE A STRAW PULP WHICH WILL OVERCOME THE KNOWN DEFICIENCIES OF EXISTING LOWER YIELD STRAW PULPS :
THE WORK CAN BE SPLIT INTO THE FOLLOWING AREAS :
- PREPARATION OF STRAW FOR PROCESSING INCLUDING CUTTING TO SIZE IN AN APPROPRIATE MACHINE;
- DEVELOPMENT OF A SUITABLE FEEDING SYSTEM IN ORDER TO UTILISE THE BI-VIS PULPER FOR THE PRODUCTION OF A HIGH YIELD STRAW PULP;
- DETERMINATION OF THE BEST PULPING CONDITIONS, INCLUDING INVESTIGATIONS OF SUITABLE COOKING CHEMICALS;
- OPERATING CONDITION OF THE BI-VIS WILL BE EVALUATED. THE MAIN PARAMETERS WILL BE SPEED OF THE CREWS, FEEDING CAPACITY, NUMBER OF RESERVE ZONES, SIZE OF THE SLOTS, TEMPERATURE AND DISCHARGE CONSISTENCY;
- EVALUATION OF STRAW PULP PRODUCED.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
