REGIONAL MODELLING OF ACIDIFICATION AND PREDICTING REVERSIBILITY OF CATCHMENT ACIDIFICATION.

Objectif

FURTHER DEVELOPMENT AND VERIFICATION OF A QUANTITATIVE CATCHMENT ACIDIFICATION MODEL AND ITS APPLICATION AT A REGIONAL SCALE TO ASSESS EFFECTS OF EMISSION STRATEGIES ON SOIL AND STREAM QUALITY.

THIS COOPERATIVE PROJECT BETWEEN THE NERC - INSTITUTE OF HYDROLOGY, THE UNIVERSITY OF GOTTINGEN (DR. HAUHS) AND THE NORWEGIAN INSTITUTE FOR WATER RESEARCH (DR. WRIGHT) HAS THE FOUR FOLLOWING GOALS :

-THE FURTHER DEVELOPMENT AND THE APPLICATION OF THE EXISTING MAGIC MODEL (MODEL OF ACIDIFICATION OF GROUNDWATER IN CATCHMENTS) TO SEVERAL UK CATCHMENTS
- THE EXTENSION OF MAGIC TO THE REGIONAL SCALE
- THE COUPLING OF AN AIR POLLUTION MODEL TO THE REGIONAL VERSION OF MAGIC
- THE INVESTIGATION OF DIFFERENT EMISSION CONTROL STRATEGIES ON SOIL AND STREAM WATER QUALITY TO PREDICT THE POSSIBILITIES FOR RESTORATION OF CATCHMENTS FROM ACIDIFICATION.

THE MAGIC MODEL WILL BE APPLIED TO THE UK, GERMAN AND NORWEGIAN INDIVIDUAL CATCHMENT STUDIES ANF FOR REGIONAL ANALYSIS.
