Objectif TO FILL IN GAPS EXISTING IN THE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE FATE OF TRACE ELEMENTS DURING COAL GASIFICATION AND LIQUEFACTION. BY LISTING THE MOST IMPORTANT TRACE ELEMENTS IN A GASIFICATION PLANT AS A FUNCTION OF OPERATING CONDITIONS, THIS PROJECT IS INTENDED TO PROVIDE THE BASES FOR DEVISING ABATEMENT TECHNOLOGIES. THE STUDY OF TRACE ELEMENTS IS INITIALLY LIMITED TO SIX METALS: LEAD, CADMIUM, ARSENIC, NICKEL, VANADIUM AND MERCURY, TOGETHER WITH THE ELEMENTS CHLORINE AND FLUORINE. SAMPLING METHODS ARE DEVELOPED TO FIND ANY TRACE ELEMENTS CONTAINED IN THE CRUDE GAS. THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE MASS DISTRIBUTION OF THE INPUT AND OUTPUT SUBSTANCES IS NEEDED IN ORDER TO DETERMINE TRACE ELEMENT RESIDUES. THE MAXIMUM POSSIBLE ABATEMENT OF RELEASES OF TRACE ELEMENTS AND OF THE EFFECTS ON THE ENVIRONMENT OF TRACE ELEMENTS HAS TO BE CONSIDERED.
