INFLUENCE OF CLIMATE VARIABILITY UPON CEREAL AND FRUIT PRODUCTION IN FRANCE

Objetivo



WHILE DIRECT EFFECTS OF ONE GIVEN CLIMATIC FACTOR UPON CULTURES HAVE BEEN STUDIED, AND MAY BE CONSIDERED AS SOMETIMES WELL KNOWN, PREDICTING THE EFFECTIVE CONSEQUENCES OF CLIMATIC CHANGE UPON AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION IS NOT EASY SINCE A NUMBER OF AGRONOMIC-ECONOMIC PARAMETERS THEN INTERFERE.

FOR THAT PURPOSE, THE USUAL ANALYTICAL PROCESS PREDICTING POTENTIAL PRODUCTION HAS TO BE REPLACED BY A MORE GLOBAL APPROACH RELATIVE TO EXISTING AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION SYSTEMS IN THEIR REGIONAL UNITS AND BASED UPON STATISTICAL TREATMENTS.

SUCH AN APPROACH HAS BEEN INITIATED IN THE "STATION DE BIOCLIMATOLOGIE INRA D'AVIGNON" FOR THE CASE OF WINTER WHEAT PRODUCTION IN THE MOST IMPORTANT REGION OF PRODUCTION IN FRANCE. UP TO NOW, ONLY CULTURAL PRACTIES AND AGROTECHNICAL PARAMETERS HAVE BEEN INTRODUCED. THE INCORPORATION OF CLIMATIC FACTORS SEEMS TO BE FEASIBLE IN A NEXT STEP, BY TREATING MORE COMPLETE DATA BANKS, WITH HELP OF "CTGREF AIX-EN-PROVENCE".

FOR FRUIT PRODUCTION IN THE SOUTH OF FRANCE, THE EXACT WEIGHT, WHILE SURELY IMPORTANT, OF CLIMATE IN THE YEAR TO YEAR VARIABILITY HAS NEVER BEEN ESTABLISHED. IT IS THEN PROPOSED THAT "CTGREF AIX-EN-PROVENCE USES ITS WELL-BASED EXPERIENCE FOR ANALYSIS AND TREATMENT OF AGRICULTURE TECHNICAL AND ECONOMICAL STRUCTURES FOR GATHERING LONG TERM SERIES OF PRODUCTION AT VARIOUS SPACES SCALES. ULTERIOR COMBINATION WITH CLIMATIC DATA WILL BE PERFORMED TOGETHER WITH "STATION DE BIOCLIMATOLOGIE INRA D'AVIGNON" IN ORDER TO DERIVE THE FIRST ORDER EFFECT OF CLIMATE FACTORS.
