Objectif THE EXPECTED RESULTS ARE : - TO DEMONSTRATE THE VIABILITY OF THIS TECHNOLOGY IN SPAIN, HERE SPECIFICALLY WITH COAL FROM CENTRAL ASTURIAS; - TO ENCOURAGE SPANISH INDUSTRY PARTICIPATION IN THIS NEW TECHNOLOGY, ALONG WITH OTHER EUROPEAN COMPANIES; - TO PROMOTE THE PARTICIPATION OF ENGINEERING FIRMS IN THE PROJECT WITH THE AIM OF ACQUIRING MORE KNOWLEDGE OF IGCC TECHNOLOGY; - TO DETERMINE THIS TECHNOLOGY'S CHARACTERISTIC GENERATION COSTS, BOTH WHERE EXISTING POWER STATIONS ARE CONVERTED AND FOR FUTURE NEW INSTALLATIONS. A new technical and economical feasibility study for an integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) power plant, using as much as possible an existing power station and the subbituminous coal from the Asturian region of Spain. This allows an alternative for retrofitting and repowering old coal power stations, without polluting the environment but providing high efficiency.IT IS INTENDED TO DEMONSTRATE THE TECHNICAL AND ECONOMIC VIABILITY OF THE GASIFICATION OF ASTURIAN COAL FOR COMBINED-CYCLE POWER GENERATION. (IGCC). IN THIS PROJECT, IT IS PROPOSED TO USE THE COAL IN A GASIFIER CAPABLE OF SUPPLYING A COMBINED CYCLE GENERATION UNIT, WHICH WILL COMPRISE AN EXISTING 50 MW STEAM TURBINE (IN THE LADA THERMAL POWER STATION) AND THE GAS TURBINE, REQUIRED FOR CYCLE OPTIMIZATION. IF IT PROVES VIABLE AND CAN SUPPLY THE PROCESSES REQUIRED, THE BOILER WHICH SUPPLIES THE STEAM TURBINES, WILL ALSO BE USED. THE TECHNICAL AND ECONOMIC FEASIBILITY STUDY FOR THE PROJECT INCLUDES A STUDY WHICH SHOWS THE ADVANTAGES OF THE COMBINED SYSTEM, USING ASTURIAN COAL, OVER CONVENTIONAL THERMAL POWER STATIONS WITH REGARD TO ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION, OVERALL THERMAL EFFICIENCY OF THE CYCLE AND COST.
