METAL WASTAGE IN FLUIDIZED BEDS FOR CONVENTIONAL AND STAGED COMBUSTION

Ziel

THE OBJECTIVE IS TO OBTAIN AN INSIGHT INTO THE INFLUENCE OF VARIOUS FACTORS ON THE METAL WASTAGE, SO THAT THE MOST USEFUL AND MOST COST EFFECTIVE MEASURES CAN BE TAKEN TO REDUCE THIS PHENOMENON, BOTH UNDER THE CURRENT AND THE MORE STRINGENT FUTURE ENVIRONMENTAL STANDARDS, UNDER CONVENTIONAL BURNING CONDITIONS AND AT STAGED COMBUSTION TO REDUCE NOX.
The mechanisms which influence the metal wastage phenomena of the in bed tubes have been more fully evaluated, allowing the development of a consistent theoretical model regarding the processes occurring on tube surfaces. These processes involve both localized and overall corrosion and the effects of chlorine on the tube.
THE EXPERIENCE WITH AFBC INSTALLATIONS SHOWS THAT IN A NUMBER OF CASES THERE IS HARDLY ANY METAL WASTAGE, WHEREAS IN OTHER INSTALLATIONS METAL WASTAGE OCCURS UP TO 0,5 MM PER 1000 HOURS AND WHICH IS, THEREFORE, UNACCEPTABLE. SO FAR, THERE IS NO EXPLANATION FOR THIS DIFFERENCE. IN VIEW OF THE IMPORTANCE OF THE FLUIDISED BED TECHNOLOGY FOR THE USE OF COAL IN THE INDUSTRY, REDUCTION OF METAL WASTAGE IS ESSENTIAL.
A FAST CIRCULATING BED BOILER MAY PROVIDE A SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM BY SEPARATING THE COMBUSTION AND THE HEAT TRANSFER, BUT IS APPRECIABLY MORE EXPENSIVE SO THAT FOR ECONOMIC REASONS THIS PROBLEM HAS TO BE SOLVED FOR BUBBLING AFBC. THE FACT THAT THERE ARE SOME INSTALLATIONS WHICH SHOW NO INADMISSIBLE METAL WASTAGE PROVES THAT SUCH A SOLUTION CAN BE FOUND.
