TURBULENT COMBUSTION AND DIAGNOSTICS. COMPARISON OF CARS AND RAMAN SPECTROSCOPY ON PREMIXED DIFFUSION FLAME AND TURBULENT FLOW AND IN HIGH PRESSURE FLAME.

RESEARCH COORDINATED BY HARWELL COMBUSTION CENTRE IN THE FRAME OF CONTRACT EN3E008800.

THE MAIN OBJECTIVES ARE:
A) COMPARISON OF CARS AND SPONTANEOUS RAMAN ON A LEEDS PREMIXED FLAT FLAME AND A TECHFLAM COUNTER FLOW DIFFUSION FLAME. DEVELOPED EXPERIENCES AND RESULTS OF THE DIFFERENT COOPERATIVE LABORATORIES WILL BE DISCUSSED AND CONCLUSIONS ON A STANDARD MEASUREMENT WILL BE DRAWN.

B) COMPARISON OF CARS AND SPONTANEOUS RAMAN ON STANDARD LAMINAR AND TURBULENT FLAME. IN COOPERATION WITH OTHER GROUPS DIFFERENT BURNER ARE DEFINED, AND RESULT WILL BE DISCUSSED, CONCLUSION ON STANDARD MEASUREMENT WILL BE DRAWN.

C) CARS MEASUREMENT IN HIGH-PRESSURE-FLAME. IMPROVING OF ACCURACY OF CARS MEASUREMENT IN HIGH PRESSURE COMBUSTION SYSTEM LIKE IC ENGINE, TURBINE.

A) THE WORK IS DIVIDED IN 3 STEPS :
1. DEVELOPMENT OF COUNTER FLOW DIFFUSION BURNER USING METHANE AS FUEL. CARS AND SPONTANEOUS RAMAN SPECTROMETRY ARE USED TO MEASURE TEMPERATURE AND CONCENTRATION PROFILE DEPENDENT ON DIFFERENT FUEL/AIR RATIO.
2. SAME MEASUREMENT ON A PREMIXED FLAT FLAME BURNER (LEEDS) AS IN 1.
3. EVALUATION ON MEASUREMENT DATA WITH EXISTING COMPUTER CODES. IMPROVING OF EXISTING PHYSICAL MODEL / COMPUTER CODES FOR TEMPERATURE EVALUATION CARS SPECTRA.

B) THIS WORK IS DIVIDED IN 3 STEPS :
1. DEVELOPMENT OF A COUNTERFLOW DIFFUSION BURNER USING METHANE AS FUEL. MEASUREMENT OF TEMPERATURE AND CONCENTRATION PROFILE BY CARS AND RAMAN SPECTROSCOPY
2. SAME DESCRIPTION AS IN 1. FOR A PREMIXED FLAT FLAME BURNER
3. AFTER DEFINITION OF A STANDARD TURBULENT BURNER.
BY OTHER COOPERATING GROUP (ONERA-KARLSHUHE) A TEST RIG FOR TURBULENT FLAME WILL BE INSTALLED AND TEST PERFORMED WITH EXISTING CARS EQUIPMENTS. THE DATA OBTAINED WILL BE TRANSFORMED IN DENSITY FUNCTION OF TEMPERATURE. THE RESULTS WILL BE COMPARED WITH THOSE OBTAINED BY OTHER WORKING GROUP AND EVALUATED WITH EXISTING COMPUTER PROGRAMMES.

C) HIGH PRESSURE FLAME CONTAIN 3 STEPS :
1. DEVELOPMENT OF A STABLE LAMINAR FLAME BURNER (DFULR) WITH STEPS PRESSURE VARIATION FROM 5 TO 40 BAR. MEASUREMENT OF TEMPERATURE BY CARS AND SPONTANEOUS RAMAN EXPERIMENT ON N2-RAMAN TEMPERATURE, DEDUCED FROM THE ROTATIONAL SPECTRUM, WILL SERVE AS REFERENCE FOR CARS MEASUREMENTS.
3. MEASURE OF SPECIES AND HIGH PRESSURE AND TEMPERATURE USING A HIGH PRESSURE CELL DEVELOPED BY HARWELL. IMPROVEMENT OF CARS THEORY TO GET RELIABLE CONCENTRATION MEASUREMENTS OF MAJOR SPECIES (O2 - CO2 - CO - H2O)
3. IN FINAL THE CARS HIGH PRESSURE WILL BE TRANSFERRED TO AN JC ENGINE AT DAIMLER BENZ.
