Objective THIS STUDY SHOULD PRODUCE INITIAL DATA ON THE INFLUENCE OF FUELS CONTAINING ALCOHOLS ON THE CORRELATION BETWEEN THE COMPOSITION OF THE FUEL AND VEHICLE RUNNING BEHAVIOUR. ETHANOL IS PROBABLY THE MOST IMPORTANT BIOMASS PRODUCT FOR MOTOR FUEL PRODUCTION AND WILL THEREFORE BE STUDIED AS THE CENTRAL FUEL COMPONENT IN THIS RESEARCH PROGRAMME. BECAUSE OF THE PRESENT AND FUTURE IMPORTANCE OF METHANOL AS A MOTOR FUEL COMPONENT, HOWEVER, FUELS CONTAINING BOTH METHANOL AND ETHANOL WILL ALSO BE STUDIED. THE INFLUENCE OF THESE ALCOHOLS ON THE PROPERTIES OF THE FUEL AND THEIR USE IN VEHICLES WILL BE STUDIED, IN ORDER TO OBTAIN A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE FUEL AND VEHICLE BEHAVIOUR.
