IMPROVEMENT OF WATERHYACINTH PRODUCTIVITY BY CO2 ENRICHMENT WITH STACK GAS

Objetivo

THE AIM OF THE RESEARCH IS TO BUILT A DYNAMIC GROWTH MODEL WITH A MECANISTIC BASIS ALLOWING TO ASSESS THE IMPACT ON BIOMASS PRODUCTION OF CHANGES IN MICROCLIMATIC CONDITIONS, CROP MANAGEMENT OR PLANT CHARACTERISTICS.

INTENSE EXPERIMENTATION IN GROWTH CHAMBERS UNDER A RANGE OF ENVIRONMENT CONDITIONS WILL PROVIDE THE MODEL PARAMETERS WHILE GROWTH UNDER OTHER CONDITIONS WILL BE USED TO TEST THE OUTPUTS OF THE MODEL.
ACTIVITIES WERE CONCENTRATED UPON DEFINING THE EXPERIMENTAL EQUIPMENT. FOUR 1.3 CUBIC METERS GROWTH CHAMBERS WITH A COMPUTERISED CONTROL OF LIGHT, AIR AND NUTRITIVE SOLUTION TEMPERATURES, HUMIDITY, CO2 CONCENTRATION AND NITRATE CONCENTRATION ARE NEEDED. NINE GROWTHCHAMBER MAKERS WERE CONTACTED IN 3 EUROPEAN COUNTRIES. THIS MARKET ANALYSIS REVEALED A LACK OF PERFORMANT AND ALREADY IN SERVICE PRODUCTS. THE CHOSEN SOLUTION INVOLVES A CLOSE COLLABORATION OF OUR LABORATORY AND THE CONSTRUCTOR AND THE CO2 AND NITRATE CONTROLS ARE BEING DESIGNED AND BUILT BY OURSELVES. THE DELIVERY TERM BEING (FOR ANY CONSTRUCTOR) ABOUT 4 MONTHS, OUR FIRST PERFORMANCE TESTS OF THE EQUIPMENT SHOULD BE AVAILABLE IN MAY.
