A THEORETICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION INTO THE PERFORMANCE OF ABSORPTION CYCLE HEAT PUMPS APPLIED TO INDUSTRIAL PROCESSES

IN THIS PROJECT A DESIGN WAS TO BE MADE FOR AN INDUSTRIAL ABSORPTION HEAT PUMP OF 300 KW WITH LIBR/H2O AS A WORKING FLUID PAIR. THE DESIGN OF THE ABSORBER WAS BELIEVED TO BE THE MOST DIFFICULT PROBLEM AND A SPECIAL ABSORBER TEST RIG HAS BEEN BUILT. A SCALED DOWN 10 KW MODEL HAS BEEN BUILT TO GAIN EXPERIENCE. THIS HEAT PUMP TRANSFORMED HEAT OF 20 - 25 DEGREES C INTO HEAT OF 60 - 90 DEGREES C. TO AVOID CRYSTALLIZATION DURING PERIODS OF NON-OPERATION THE LIBR IS STORED AT A CONCENTRATION LESS THAN 59 %. THE SEALING OF THE ABSORBER IS A MAJOR PROBLEM DUE TO THE LOW PRESSURE INSIDE.
